Five Reasons RelayRides Is Right for You

RelayRides blogger Nicholas Pell has pulled together a list on why you need to stop stalling and join RelayRides immediately.

While tens-of-thousands are currently enjoying the benefits of the RelayRides marketplace, there are still many who are still on the fence about joining. For these folks, we pulled together some compelling evidence to join RelayRides either as a renter who wants to save money, or an owner who’s looking to pull in extra cash.

Because the concept is still very new, we understand that some people might need a little more information than others. That’s why we’ve put together this list of five reasons that you need to join RelayRides. Whether you need a car you don’t have, or have a car you don’t need that much, RelayRides is the place for you to hook up with other members of your community to fulfill mutual needs.

A Revised iPhone App

We recently made some major improvements to our iPhone app. Conversations about your reservation are shown alongside other details, giving you easy access to who said what and when it was said. Searching is easier than ever with auto suggestions popping up as you type. For owners, the app makes it easier than ever to respond to vehicle requests by providing alerts. Whether you need a car, or just need to manage your own personal micro-fleet from the palm of your hands, the revised iPhone app has all the tools that you need.

Peer-to-Peer Community

RelayRides is a lot different from traditional car-rental services and their big fleets in a lot of ways. One of them is that rather than connecting with a huge, faceless corporation, you’re connecting with another member of the community where you live… or at least the community where you’re visiting if you happen to be out of town. In fact, personal connections are a big reason why we love what we do so much at RelayRides. That’s something you won’t get from a traditional fleet-based car-sharing service.

We’re the Airbnb of Cars

If you have a room in your house that’s just storing old junk, you’re losing money every month. AirBnB has helped tens of thousands of people to solve this problem. At RelayRides, we think of ourselves as the AirBnB of cars: we take an expensive, idle asset (your car) and help you to make money off of it when it’s not in use. Think about how much time you spend using your car in a given week. Any time that you’re not using your car, you’re just throwing money out the window. RelayRides is here to help you solve that problem. Also, much like Airbnb, our biggest user base is travelers. Since such a large number of RelayRides members are travelers, we focused our business on longer-duration rentals, and we have launched several airport features to facilitate travel from (and in the case of SFO) to the airport.

It’s a Green Commute

People love bikes and mass transit, but these aren’t always feasible. Whether you need to move across town, drive somewhere without a subway station, get groceries or just need something to help get you around a strange and unfamiliar city, RelayRides is the greenest way to transport yourself and your stuff while still using a car. In fact, for every RelayRides car, 14 cars are taken off the road. That’s something that everyone can get behind.

Make Money

If you’re an owner, it’s a no brainer: You can make money for letting other people use your car when you’re not. Best of all, RelayRides covers you with a million-dollar insurance policy. So relax: In the rare event that anything goes wrong, we’re going to be right behind you, getting it fixed. What’s more, our average transaction is up 70 percent this year from last year. This is money that you could be making right now, but aren’t.

So what are you waiting for? Whether you want to make money or save money, RelayRides is the ticket for you.
